The company was formed in December 2024 to own the electronics division of DuPont.In November 2025, DuPont officially completed the corporate spin-off of the company. The branding agency Lippincott devised the name "Qnity" by combining the word "unity" with the letter "Q".The letter "Q" was chosen because it represents the symbol for electric charge, as well as the emblem of the power icon on electronic devices. Qnity's roots trace back to 1987, when DuPont began expanding heavily into the electronics industry.Its capabilities were further strengthened in July 2021 when DuPont acquired Laird Performance Materials for $2.3 billion.
